First day of school

Frankenstorm update!

At about noon today we decided that we were going to travel to VA Beach to stay with Roommate's parents. (If our power goes out, our water goes out). Apparently we made the right choice because at 3pm we got a phone call from the Sheriff telling us to evacuate. We made it safely here and school is already closed for Monday.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WAKEFIELD HAS ISSUED A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM SUNDAY TO MIDNIGHT EDT MONDAY NIGHT. THE COASTAL FLOOD WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* COASTAL FLOODING... MODERATE TO SEVERE COASTAL FLOODING LIKELY DURING HIGH TIDE CYCLES FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY MORNING.

* TIMING... SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING... WITH THE GREATEST IMPACT AND WATER LEVELS LIKELY TO OCCUR WITH THE MONDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE CYCLE.

* IMPACTS... WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO RISE TO AROUND 2 FEET ABOVE NORMAL. TIDAL FLOODING WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE MONDAY EVENING TIDE CYCLE. MODERATE TO SEVERE FLOODING IS EXPECTED A FEW HOURS EITHER SIDE OF HIGH TIDE SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY MORNING.

* TIDES... AT YORKTOWN... HIGH TIDE SUNDAY MORNING IS AT 851 AM WITH A FORECAST WATER LEVEL OF 5.3 FT. HIGH TIDE SUNDAY EVENING IS AT 911 PM WITH A FORECAST WATER LEVEL OF 5.0 FT. HIGH TIDE MONDAY MORNING IS AT 928 AM WITH A FORECAST WATER LEVEL OF 5.3 FT.

SOMERSET AND WICOMICO. IN VIRGINIA... ACCOMACK... GLOUCESTER... LANCASTER... MATHEWS... MIDDLESEX... NORTHAMPTON VA... NORTHUMBERLAND... RICHMOND AND WESTMORELAND.

* TIMING: 2 AM EDT SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING.

* IMPACTS: HEAVY RAIN FROM TROPICAL STORM SANDY IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA THIS EVENING... THEN FURTHER NORTH INTO THE LOWER MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA EASTERN SHORE LATE TONIGHT. STEADY RAIN WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD FROM SOUTH TO NORTH BY SUNDAY MORNING. HEAVY RAIN IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST ACROSS THE AREA SUNDAY INTO TUESDAY... AS SANDY MOVES ONSHORE POTENTIALLY OVER NEW JERSEY. LONG DURATION RAINFALL MAY CAUSE FLOODING ACROSS THE AREA.

* RAINFALL AMOUNTS: 8 TO 11 INCHES OVER THE LOWER MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA EASTERN SHORE POSSIBLE... LOCALLY UP TO 12 INCHES ALONG THE IMMEDIATE ATLANTIC COAST. 6 TO 8 INCHES POSSIBLE OVER THE MIDDLE PENINSULA AND NORTHERN NECK.
