First day of school

Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens

On Saturday Becca and I went to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond.

We saw the Richmond Rose Society show (including winning roses and displays), as well as "A Million Blooms" -- a spectacular display of orchids -- one of the largest collections of orchids on public, daily display in the mid-Atlantic. It also featured a spectacular succession of blooms including daffodils, cherry blossoms, tulips, irises, roses and peonies.

One of the coolest things was the Patrick Dougherty at the Garden: Meadowmorphosis and Sculpture. Apparently Patrick Dougherty built a large-scale, temporary sculpture of woven sticks and saplings in the Anderson Meadow; which they called “Meadowmorphosis.” It's so cool! (I highly recommend it!)

First day of school

Becca's Visit!

Becca came to visit this weekend! It started on Friday night when her flight to Richmond from DC was canceled. She ended up renting a car and making friends with a family who drove with her. She got in around 2:15AM and we crashed.

On Saturday we got up and went to Waffle House for breakfast (my first Waffle house!) Then we went to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, which were AMAZING! (See previous post.) We walked around for about two hours and it was beautiful! Next we headed over to the Richmond Metro Zoo - which was very cute. I got to feed a giraffe too! (Very exciting!) We stopped at Sonic and got a freezy drink and then headed home. We had a delicious dinner of pasta, fruit salad and green salad and then collapsed and watched a movie.

Yesterday we got up and headed out to Williamsburg. We walked around and went to the Cheese Shop and the chocolate shop. We had a delicious lunch of bread, cheese and fruit! Then we headed over to Jamestown Settlement and spent a few hours there. After that we headed over to Rita's to get Becca's first Rita's of the season! (Sooo delicious!) To finish our day we went to Movie Tavern to see "Bridesmaids" and have dinner. We got sandwiches and enjoyed the movie.

Today Becca flew home. All in all, a lovely visit! :)
