First day of school

Hello San Diego!

Today Bill and I traveled to San Diego!

We left early this morning and it took about an hour and a half. We stopped at this little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant that was recommended to us and it was pretty good. We got to the zoo around noon. With his military ID Bill got in for free and I got 10% off - how lovely! We got in and took the double-decker bus ride around the zoo (there was a long line, but they needed two people to fill the bus so we jumped on!) It was about a 45 minute tour, and it did a great job covering all the major things to see! I really enjoyed it. Then we took the Sky Ride (it rode across the entire park!) We took the ride from the front of the park to the back and then worked our way back. We saw elephants, pandas, hippos, lots of birds, lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) So many animals! It was lovely! I had been there in about 15 years, but I did remember a few things.

Then we headed downtown and went to Kansas City BBQ (which was used to film Top Gun). It was very tasty! Bill had burnt ends and I had brisket. We also took some pictures of the place. We had an hour left on the parking meter, so we walked around Old Town San Diego (and downtown) Comic Con actually kicks off tomorrow night so the whole town is ready for it! There are big signs everywhere and they had notifications up about the bus schedule changes. (We passed the convention center too, which is all "comiced" out).

Then we headed to the Navy base (where we're staying tonight). We checked in and crashed. A little while ago we went to the supermarket on base and just picked up a little snack. Now we're watched "America's Got Talent" while Bill yells at Howie for picking poor acts.

Tomorrow we're heading back to Lompoc and Thursday is BIll's promotion ceremony. All in all, it was a lovely mini-vacation!
