First day of school

I <3 the Donut man

            Today was amazing.

Well, it started out hard: I had all 22 girls and had to get them up, to breakfast and off to class. It wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but it was a challenge. After hand-off we had our RA meeting and then Matt H, Allie, Brendan and I worked on Talent Show stuff (we made pretty posters) and hung out in the office. We were originally going to the movies, but it was so nice outside that we decided to go kayaking. So, I returned to my room and Allie and Matt showed up (Matt was playing with my squirt guns – it was great) and we kidnapped Jess and all went to lunch.

After lunch we all changed and Matt H, Matt W, Jess, Allie and I headed over to the Chester River to go kayaking. Everyone was in a single, but Jess and I took a double. It was a bit hard at first, but so much fun! We went down to the bridge and floated back for a bit before rowing in. Amazing. Afterwards we went to this little coffee house and all hung out for a bit. (I had a pina colada smoothie, wonderful.) Then Matt W and I headed over to the Maze game for our math kids. I never really got the exact concept of the game, but it was all about getting across this giant math maze of numbers and trying to solve number riddles. Quite hard for me. I stayed until 4ish and then went to the office to get the mail before I had to pick up the kids.

After hand-off we had a hall meeting and then hall time before dinner. Dinner was interesting for two reasons: 1. The lacrosse camp is here and those guys are such jerks. 2. There’s a virus going around and one of Alex’s kids got sick… sick so that he saw what he ate again. Enough said. After dinner I ran Talent Show practice and then kickball, which both went well. Then came more hall time and lights out and my evening off adventures began.

Well, it all started with Jess, Matt W and myself (Allie was supposed to come, but she went to go hang out with Alex). So we first went over to the apartments and hung out with the TAs and instructors for a bit. Now, last week Alex, Allie, and Laura were at this 24 food place down the road a bit (about 10 minutes) and apparently at 11:45PM the krispy kream man comes to change the donuts. Last time they went he gave them a whole bag of donuts for free. So, we headed over there and ended up waiting about 10 minutes before he came. Well, I was elected to go talk to him and asked if the rumor that they threw out the donuts was true. He said yes and that he will be leaving the bag on the back of his truck for about five minutes while he changes the donuts. So, Jess and Matt walk out of the store, pick up the bag and walk away. It was WONDERFUL! We got this massive bag of all kinds of donuts! We came back to campus and shared some with my Dad and then went to Alex’s room where Allie, Alex, Matt, Jess and I all ate some donuts. A wonderful evening out indeed.

First day of school

a good song...

Allie has this song on her Itunes and I love it! :)

I Believe
By Blessed Union of Souls, from the CD: Home

Walk blindly to the light and reach out for his hand
Don't ask any questions and don't try to understand
Open up your mind and then open up your heart
And you will see that you and me aren't very far apart

'Cause I believe
That love is the answer
I believe
Love will find the way

Violence is spread worldwide and there's families on the street
And we sell drugs to children now, oh why can't we just see
That all we do is eliminate our future with the things we do today
Money is our incentive now so that makes it okay

But I believe
That love is the answer
I believe
Love will find the way
I believe
That love is the answer
I believe
Love will find the way

I've been seeing Lisa now for a little over a year
She said she'd never been so happy, but Lisa lives in fear
That one day daddy's gonna find out she's in love
With a nigger from the streets

Oh how he would lose it then but she's still here with me
'Cause she believes that love will see it through
One day he'll understand
He'll see me as a person... and not just a black man

'Cause I believe
That love is the answer
I believe
That love will find the way
I believe I believe I believe I believe
That love is the answer
I believe
Love will find the way

First day of school

Staff bowling is fun! :)

Today was a lot of fun, but seems like it went on forever!

It all began with breakfast and dropping off the girls. Then we had our RA meeting and I gave the “Rockstar RA” award to Matt H. because he’s had Will’s kids and hasn’t had a night off in four days – oy! It was really nice. J We went over weekend activities at the meeting and a few other random things. Tomorrow night is the Funky Hair/Funky Dance dance, Saturday we’re traveling to “Harry Potter land” then having the Talent Show at night, Sunday is “Water Day” and a movie night. It’ll be a fun-filled weekend as usual!

After the meeting I went over to the office and Matt, Allie and I typed up most of the program for the Talent Show (we saw all the boys tonight, so we have to add those in tomorrow) and then I walked back with Allie and we talked about doing something for the Talent show and we looked up some music. It’s a work in progress right now, but we had fun playing with music. Then I ran back to my room and Matt W., Nicole, Laura, and Jess headed over to Roses to get hair-dye and a few other random things. We ended up wandering around and finally found hair stuff at the Right-Aid. I got a box of dye and some major glue stuff to stick my hair up. Matt and Jess got spray on dye too. It’ll be interesting I’m sure!

Then we all went back to school and met up with most of the other staff to head to bowling (That was our staff trip this week). We went to this alley about five minutes away and it was so much fun! We had three lanes and bowled two games – tons of fun! Afterwards we went back to school and then decided to go eat, so we went over to Arby’s and I got a chocolate milkshake. It was yummy. Afterwards we stopped by the room and then Matt W. and I went over to the Data and Chance Carnival. Which was fun – mind you all the games were rigged and I lost all my money, but the kids tried really hard, so it was nice.

After that we headed back to the office where we had a quick meeting about what happened in London and picked up mail. Then I went and got the girls, we had some hall time and a hall meeting. Dinner was lovely – we have a lacrosse camp here and they’re not the nicest people. Oh well, they’ll be gone by the 9th.  After dinner I first had a Talent Show practice with the boys (oy! The girls have so much more talent, it’s crazy!) and then Jess and I did Stationary making and letter writing, which was nice. When activities were done I brought the girls back and got everyone into bed. Kim and I chatted a bit and now I’m just getting ready for bed.

            A wonderful day indeed. J
